Albert Lea Riders Chapter 56 are spearheading the project to bring the "Freedom Rock" to Freeborn County. The rock is permanently located at the north side of Freeborn County Courthouse next to the veteran memorial. This project will bring pride to our community and a tribute to our Freeborn County veterans in honor of their service to our country.
Ray “Bubba” Sorensen is the artist who will be doing the artwork. He has painted Freedom Rocks in all counties of Iowa, along with a few in Minnesota and Wisconsin. To view some of his work, go to www.thefreedomrock.com
The Legion website will be updated as the project evolves. We like to thank the following business/people who have donated product, services, and time for the transportation and placement of the rock: Ulland Brothers, Wangen Excavation, Peterson Excavation, Deans Towing, Meyerhoffer Crane & Rigging Service, D & K Demo and Excavation, Scott Millhouse, and Brad Herfindahl. The Rock was donated by Roberta Ernston. We also want to thank the Country Inn and Suites for donating Bubba's hotel stay while he is in Albert Lea painting the rock.
The donation process has begun and your financial support would be greatly appreciated. Our goal is to raise $45-50,000 to complete the design and painting, landscaping, and shelter for the rock. Please consider giving towards the Freedom Rock of Freeborn County. Thank you.
PHASE ONE
Fundraising and painting of the rock
Phase Two
The Cement work and building the shelter has begun in April 2024. The landscaping and QR Code information with the names of the donators and veterans will be the final phase. A dedication will occur once the project is completed.
