The honor Guard unit consists of approximately twenty volunteer members. It provides a dignified representation to fellow veterans at funeral services, ceremonies, parades and civic engagements. At each military funeral, a full complement consists of 7 riflemen, 1 sergeant and 1 bugler dressed in American Legion uniforms.
The main function is to attend church services for the deceased veteran and perform a 21 gun volley at the cemetery or whatever is deemed appropriate by the family. At this time the Flag of our Country is folded and on behalf of a grateful nation, presented to the next of kin. The bugler plays TAP’s to end the service.
The service is available for any veteran upon request by deceased veteran’s family. It is initiated by contacting the Freeborn County Veterans Service Officers Jeff Dahlen 507-377-5185 and Arlyn Anderson 507-373-7993 (Legion)
